In a significant development, the Madras High Court has issued a directive to the Tamil Nadu government to consider the plea of the Tamil Nadu School and College Educational Film Organization Society regarding the exhibition of educational movies in schools and colleges across the state.Justice SM Subramaniam presided over the case and directed the state government to carefully review the petition submitted by the society and make a decision accordingly. The court subsequently disposed of the petition, paving the way for further deliberation and action by the authorities.
The plea, brought forth by the Tamil Nadu School and College Educational Film Organization Society, sought to compel the state government to permit the society to showcase educational films in educational institutions throughout the state. The petitioner society emphasized the importance of utilizing visual media as an effective tool for educational enrichment and enhancement of learning experiences among students.
In response to the court’s directive, Special Government Pleader T Venkateshkumar assured that the government would earnestly consider the request made by the petitioner. He stated that the government is committed to addressing the concerns raised by the society and expressed readiness to deliberate on the matter in the forthcoming academic year 2024-2025.
The petitioner society underscored that the lack of a definitive decision by the government regarding the permission to screen educational movies in all districts of the state has impeded their efforts to promote educational outreach and awareness through visual media.
