Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has confirmed his participation in the upcoming INDIA coalition conclave in New Delhi on June 1. The meeting, which is expected to attract most of the top opposition leaders in the country, is poised to take significant decisions, including potentially announcing the coalition’s Prime Ministerial candidate should the BJP fail to secure a victory in the impending Lok Sabha elections. The election results are slated to be revealed on June 4.
Initially hesitant to attend the conclave due to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) preparations for the centenary celebrations of M. Karunanidhi, scheduled for June 4, Stalin was persuaded by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to prioritize the meeting. This development underscores the importance the DMK places on its potential role in the formation of a new government, with Stalin’s presence deemed crucial for addressing key issues and ensuring swift progress if the election results favor the INDIA coalition.
The DMK had planned to hold the concluding event of the Karunanidhi centenary celebrations after the election results, considering the Model Code of Conduct will be in force on June 3, the birth anniversary of Karunanidhi, which falls just one day before the election results are announced. By postponing the valedictory event, the DMK aims to transform it into a national occasion, attracting top leaders from various major parties.
The conclave is expected to solidify the coalition’s plans and strategies in anticipation of a potential victory, reflecting the high stakes involved as the country awaits the Lok Sabha election outcomes.
