Washington, June 7: SpaceX’s colossal Starship rocket took off from its launch site in southern Texas for its fourth test flight on Thursday, aiming to achieve a challenging primary goal- withstand the intense heat of re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere, the critical phase during which the rocket disintegrated in its previous attempt.The spacecraft, comprising the Starship cruise vessel atop the massive Super Heavy rocket booster, lifted off from the company’s Starbase facility near Boca Chica Village on the Texas Gulf Coast. This latest trial mission is part of Elon Musk’s company’s test-to-failure approach to rocket development, reported Reuters.
“The main goal of this mission is to get much deeper into the atmosphere during reentry, ideally through max heating,” Musk, CEO of SpaceX, wrote on social media on Saturday.
Starship, standing at nearly 400 feet (122 meters) tall, is designed to be more cost-effective and powerful than SpaceX’s reliable Falcon 9 rocket. It represents the future of the company’s dominant satellite launch and astronaut business and is set to be utilized by NASA in the coming years to land the first astronauts on the moon since 1972.
