Heavy rains across Chennai


Heavy rains swept through Chennai late on Tuesday night, leading to significant water stagnation in various parts of the city. Reports indicate that areas such as Guindy, Ekkatuthangal, Vadapalani, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu, Mogappair, T Nagar, Nungambakkam, Valluvar Kottam, Kilpauk, Chetpet, Ayanavaram, and Kodambakkam were severely affected. Suburban regions like Poonamallee, Thiruverkadu, Avadi, and Ambattur also experienced moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning for isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until June 21. The weather forecast predicts that the sky over Chennai will remain partly cloudy with the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning in some areas over the next 48 hours.
Additionally, the RMC has forecasted continued rainfall across various parts of Tamil Nadu until June 22. Residents are advised to stay cautious and updated with the latest weather information.
The heavy downpour has caused significant disruptions, with waterlogging reported in numerous localities, affecting daily life and traffic. Authorities are working to address the water stagnation issues and mitigate the impact on affected areas.
