Annamalai serves legal notice to DMK’s RS Bharathi

In a significant development, BJP state president K Annamalai has issued a legal notice to DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi, demanding Rs 1 crore in compensation. The notice alleges that Bharathi has falsely blamed Annamalai and his party for the tragic Kallakurichi hooch deaths, which claimed 60 lives, in an attempt to tarnish Annamalai’s reputation.
The legal notice accuses RS Bharathi of making unfounded statements during interviews, insinuating that Annamalai and the BJP are responsible for the Kallakurichi incident. Annamalai contends that Bharathi is exploiting the tragic event to gain political mileage by spreading baseless accusations.
“This is a time of mourning for the state,” the notice reads, emphasizing that Bharathi’s remarks are intended to create confusion and chaos among the public, damaging Annamalai’s reputation. The notice further states, “A person’s reputation is an inseparable element of his individual personality and it cannot be allowed to be tarnished in the name of right to freedom of expression.”
Annamalai has expressed that these allegations have caused him significant mental distress. He has demanded an unconditional apology from RS Bharathi within three days, failing which he will initiate legal proceedings.
The political landscape in Tamil Nadu is already tense, and this legal confrontation adds another layer of complexity. The BJP and DMK, two major political entities in the state, have been at odds on various issues, and this incident underscores the ongoing friction between them.
As the state continues to grapple with the aftermath of the Kallakurichi tragedy, this legal battle is poised to further intensify the political discourse.
