CM forms committee to amend Criminal Laws

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has established a one-man committee to review and recommend amendments to three criminal laws recently enacted by the Government of India. The committee will be chaired by retired Justice M. Satyanarayan.
The committee will study the newly implemented criminal laws and suggest necessary amendments at the state level, including changes to the names of the laws in Hindi.
The committee will consult with advocate associations and other stakeholders to gather comprehensive feedback. The committee is expected to submit its report within a month.
In a post on X, CM Stalin criticized the implementation of new criminal laws without state consultation or parliamentary debate, which has led to protests nationwide. He emphasized the ongoing opposition by the DMK and the Tamil Nadu government, underscoring the need for state-level amendments.
“In a meeting of high officials, it was decided to amend these laws and a committee headed by a retired Justice has been constituted for the purpose,” Stalin stated.
