Villeneuve-sur-Lot, France, July 12: Primoz Roglic lost over two minutes to his Tour de France rivals after a crash near the finish line on Thursday. Biniam Girmay won the stage, marking his third victory in this Tour.
Roglic went down with several others when a rider ahead hit road furniture and lost control of his bike, just 12 kilometers from the finish. This was Roglic’s second crash in 24 hours. Although he managed to get back on his bike, he struggled and needed help from his Bora-Hansgrohe teammates, finishing 2 minutes and 27 seconds behind the winner, dropping him to sixth place overall.
Girmay, the first Black rider to win a Tour stage this month, beat Wout van Aert and Arnaud Démare, extending his lead in the best sprinter’s green jersey rankings.
Tadej Pogacar retained the yellow jersey, maintaining a 1:06 lead over Remco Evenepoel, with Jonas Vingegaard in third, 1:14 behind.
The crash disrupted the final sprint preparations, with Matthieu Van der Poel unable to lead out teammate Jasper Philipsen.
Stage 12 covered a 204-kilometer route from Aurillac to Villeneuve-sur-Lot in southwestern France. An early breakaway involving Jonas Abrahamsen, Quentin Pacher, and Valentin Madouas was caught after 162 kilometers.
