A tragic incident occurred on Friday night when a 30-year-old woman working as a housekeeping staff member at a private firm inside an IT park in Taramani was killed after a stationary hoarding fell on her due to heavy wind and rain. The deceased, identified as Renuka from Assam, lived with her husband Vishnu and their two children in Kottivakkam. Vishnu works as a security guard at the same IT park where Renuka was employed.
The incident took place as Renuka was walking home after finishing her shift. According to police sources, while she was on the IT park’s private road, a ten-foot-high metal hoarding was dislodged by the strong winds and fell on her.
Onlookers and fellow staff members quickly rushed to Renuka’s aid, extricating her from beneath the heavy metal structure. She was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
The Taramani Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident. The focus will likely include examining the structural integrity of the hoarding and determining if negligence played a role in this tragic accident.
This unfortunate event has cast a pall over the IT park community, raising concerns about safety protocols and the maintenance of structures within the campus, especially during severe weather conditions.
