In a major boost to urban housing infrastructure, Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday inaugurated over Rs 900 crore worth of housing projects undertaken by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) and the Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB). The inauguration ceremony was held at the state Secretariat.The newly inaugurated projects include 4,184 new multi-story apartments developed by the TNUHDB at a cost of Rs 541.32 crore, and 1,459 rental houses and commercial buildings constructed by the TNHB for government officers at a cost of Rs 382.84 crore. This significant investment reflects the state government’s commitment to addressing urban housing needs and improving living standards for residents.
The TNUHDB tenements inaugurated by Chief Minister Stalin feature several key developments:
A ground plus 15-floor complex comprising 1,200 apartments developed under the Kargil Nagar scheme at a cost of Rs 190.88 crore.
360 houses constructed under the Tiruchinankuppam part-II project.
An additional 1,792 houses constructed in ground-plus 14-floor buildings at a cost of Rs 226.64 crore as part of the Manali New Town ā II project in Tiruvallur.
Further TNUHDB projects in Theni, Pudukkottai, and The Nilgiris, all contributing to the 4,184 houses inaugurated.
Each apartment developed by the TNUHDB measures 400 square feet and includes a multi-purpose hall, bedroom, kitchen, and toilet. The apartments are equipped with essential amenities such as drinking water, tarred roads, sewage systems, and storm water drainage facilities. To ensure the upkeep and management of these residential complexes, resident welfare associations will be established under the āNam Kudiyiruppu, Nam Poruppuā (Our House, Our Responsibility) initiative.
The TNHB projects include rental houses and commercial buildings intended for government officers, constructed at a cost of Rs 382.84 crore. These projects aim to provide high-quality, affordable housing options for government employees, facilitating their accommodation needs and improving their living conditions.
