The Chennai Airport witnessed its annual anti-hijacking mock exercise on Tuesday, aimed at enhancing the preparedness and coordination of various security agencies and stakeholders in the event of a hijacking incident. The exercise was followed by the second aerodrome committee meeting, convened by J Anne Mary Swarna, IAS, Joint Secretary to the Government. The meeting included participation from key stakeholders of the Chennai airport and officials from various security agencies. The anti-hijacking mock exercise is conducted annually at all airports across the country to familiarize stakeholders with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be adopted during an aircraft hijacking situation. It serves to assess the efficacy of the protocols and the readiness of the involved agencies to manage such critical scenarios. The exercise provides a controlled environment for security personnel to practice their response strategies, ensuring that they are well-prepared to handle real-life hijacking situations effectively. It also allows for the identification of any gaps or weaknesses in the current procedures, enabling continuous improvement in the overall security framework. The participation of various security agencies and airport stakeholders underscores the collaborative effort required to maintain high standards of safety and security in the aviation sector. These exercises are crucial in fostering a coordinated approach, ensuring that all parties are aligned in their response efforts. The successful completion of the mock exercise and subsequent meeting reaffirms the commitment of the Chennai airport and its associated agencies to uphold the highest levels of security, ensuring the safety of passengers and crew in all eventualities.
