The Chennai Meteorological Center has issued a weather advisory for several districts in Tamil Nadu, forecasting light to moderate rainfall due to changes in westerly wind speeds. The districts expected to receive rainfall today include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli (Nellai), and Kanyakumari (Kumari).Director of the Chennai Meteorological Center, P. Senthamarai Kannan, announced that in addition to light to moderate rain, some areas in Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, could experience thunderstorms and lightning. Residents are advised to stay alert to the possibility of sudden weather changes.
The meteorological office has also predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the hilly areas of Nilgiris and Coimbatore, which are particularly vulnerable to such weather conditions. Hilly regions in Tirupur, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Dindigul, and parts of Kanyakumari are also likely to see heavy downpours.
The forecast comes as Tamil Nadu experiences the southwest monsoon, which typically brings significant rainfall to the western and southern parts of the state. The heavy rains in the hilly areas are expected to impact daily life, and local authorities have been advised to prepare for potential disruptions, including landslides and waterlogging.
