Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the centenary celebrations of Loyola College on Thursday, lauding the institution for its century-long legacy of excellence in education, sports, and the arts. Speaking at the event held at the college’s Nungambakkam campus, Stalin expressed pride in seeing the college’s alumni, which include prominent politicians, former union ministers, advocates, and sports personalities, excel in various fields.“I am proud to see the success of Loyola’s alumni and I look forward to witnessing more students from this prestigious institution achieve great things,” Stalin said to a large gathering of students, faculty, and alumni.
Stalin was accompanied by Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy and DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran, who is also an alumnus of Loyola College. The chief minister highlighted the college’s unique standing in Chennai, noting that Loyola students often excel in sports and arts, contributing to the institution’s esteemed reputation over the past 100 years.
As part of its centenary celebrations, Loyola College has planned several projects, including the construction of the Shyam Kothari Centenary Building, which will house 66 classrooms and four grand halls. “The goal is to accommodate more students and provide them with state-of-the-art facilities,” said J. Anthony Robinson, Rector of Loyola Institutions.
Additionally, the college aims to establish a ₹100 crore scholarship fund to support 1,500 students annually. To engage with its global alumni network, Loyola College will also host an international alumni day event in Dubai later this month, marking a significant milestone in its centenary year.
