Tamilnadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) is set to launch a new packet system in 234 ration shops across the state on a pilot basis. This initiative, first announced by Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Sakkarapani in January last year, aims to enhance the accuracy of distribution and address complaints related to underweight supplies. The pilot project, which began in one ration shop in Salem, will now be expanded to one shop in each of the 234 Assembly constituencies. Under this system, essential commodities such as rice, sugar, and pulses will be distributed in pre-packed packets. This approach is intended to ensure that recipients receive the correct weight and quality of goods.
The TNCSC hopes that the packet system will bring about greater consistency and transparency in the distribution process. If successful, this system may be rolled out to all 35,169 ration shops across Tamil Nadu, benefiting a larger portion of the population.
