The rehearsals are scheduled for today, August 9, and August 14, with the customary Independence Day event set to take place at Fort St. George on August 15.
According to an official release, the traffic diversions will be in effect from 6 a.m. until the rehearsals conclude on each of the three days. These measures are intended to ensure the smooth conduct of the rehearsals and the main event, while minimizing disruptions to daily traffic.
As part of the traffic plan, the stretch of Kamarajar Salai from the Labour Statue up to the RBI Subway North on Rajaji Salai, as well as Flag Staff Road, will be closed to all vehicular traffic during the designated times.
Alternative Routes for Affected Traffic:
For vehicles on Kamarajar Salai heading towards Parry’s Corner via Rajaji Salai: Motorists are advised to take Wallajah Salai, Anna Salai, Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, RA Mandram, and NFS Road to reach their destination.
For vehicles on Rajaji Salai intending to proceed towards Kamarajar Salai via the Secretariat: Drivers should use the route via Parry’s Corner, NFS Road, RA Mandram, Muthusamy Road, Muthusamy Bridge, Anna Salai, and Wallajah Road to reach Kamarajar Salai.
For vehicles coming from Anna Salai and aiming to reach Parry’s Corner and Kamarajar Salai via Flag Staff Road: The suggested route is via Muthusamy Bridge, Muthusamy Road, RA Mandram, and NFS Road to reach Parry’s Corner, or via Anna Salai and Wallajah Road to reach Kamarajar Salai.
The GCTP has urged motorists to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and to use alternative routes as provided. The traffic department will deploy additional personnel to manage the diversions and assist drivers during these periods.
Residents and commuters are advised to stay informed about the diversions and cooperate with the authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the Independence Day celebrations and related rehearsals.
