The Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has unveiled 58 new low-floor bus routes as part of a major expansion of its fleet. On Sunday, a total of 100 new buses were inaugurated, which includes 58 new low-floor buses, 30 ordinary buses, and 12 refurbished buses designed specifically for the disabled and senior citizens. The expansion represents an investment of Rs 66.15 crore.The new low-floor buses are expected to enhance accessibility and convenience for passengers, particularly those with mobility challenges. These buses are equipped with modern amenities aimed at improving the overall travel experience for commuters across the city.
In addition to the low-floor buses, the introduction of 30 ordinary buses will bolster the existing transport network, catering to the increasing demand for public transportation. The 12 refurbished buses will further support inclusivity by providing better facilities for disabled passengers and senior citizens.
The inauguration of these buses marks a significant step forward in MTC’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure and service quality in Chennai.
