‘No increase in retirement age for State employees’

Recent rumors about the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to increase the retirement age for state employees to 62 have been refuted by the government. Currently, the retirement age for Tamil Nadu government employees is set at 60. Speculation had been spreading that the government, facing financial constraints, was planning to raise this age limit from 60 to 62.
These rumors had sparked opposition from government employee unions and political party leaders, who argued that such a move would negatively impact young people waiting for government job opportunities. They urged the Tamil Nadu government to drop any plans to increase the retirement age.
In response, the Tamil Nadu government issued a statement categorically denying these rumors. The government’s fact-checking department released a press note clarifying that there is no decision or consideration to raise the retirement age to 62.
The note addressed a specific rumor that a resolution to increase the retirement age had already been passed and sent to the Secretariat, with an official order expected within 15 days. The government stated that this information is completely unfounded, and there is no ongoing discussion or decision to change the retirement age. The public was urged not to spread such baseless rumors.
