Chennai: In a tragic incident on Wednesday, two workers lost their lives in an explosion at a private firecracker factory located in Mayadevanpatti village, Srivilliputhur block, Virudhunagar district.
The explosion, which occurred during working hours, triggered a massive fire that quickly engulfed the facility.
The two victims, identified as Puli Kutty and Karthik, were trapped inside the factory when the blast occurred. Despite efforts to rescue them, both workers succumbed to the fire.
Firefighters from Srivilliputhur and Sivakasi rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to bring the blaze under control. The cause of the explosion is yet to be determined, and authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.
This tragic event has once again highlighted the safety concerns surrounding the firecracker industry, which has seen similar incidents in the past. The district administration is expected to review safety protocols at firecracker manufacturing units to prevent such tragedies in the future.
