Thanjavur: A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly killing his father following a family dispute in Orathanadu, Thanjavur.

The deceased, identified as Samarasam (64), had been living alone for over two decades after deserting his wife Gowri, son Veeramani, and daughter Sathya.

The tragic incident came to light when villagers from Melaiyur, a village near Orathanadu, became concerned after noticing that Samarasam had not attended the village temple’s goat offering event. Alarmed by his unusual absence, the villagers decided to check on him at his residence. To their horror, they found Samarasam lying dead in a pool of blood. The villagers immediately informed the Orathanadu police, who arrived on the scene with a sniffer dog to begin their investigation.

Acting on initial suspicions, the police detained Samarasam’s son Veeramani, his estranged wife Gowri, daughter Sathya, and son-in-law Kootha Perumal for questioning. During the interrogation, Veeramani reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that a heated argument with his father had escalated, leading him to beat his father to death.

The incident has shocked the local community, who are grappling with the news of a family dispute that turned fatal. Police are continuing their investigation, examining all aspects of the case to ensure justice is served.

The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem examination, and further legal action is expected to follow based on the findings.
