Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely monitoring the situation surrounding MPox, with increased surveillance and swift detection measures being prioritized. Dr. P.K. Mishra, the Principal Secretary, has directed that the network of testing laboratories be strengthened for early diagnosis, with 32 labs currently equipped to test for the virus.
The Union Government, in a release outlined several measures taken over the past week. These include a meeting of experts convened by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on August 12 to assess the risk to India, updating the Communicable Disease (CD) alert on MPox to reflect recent developments, and sensitizing health teams at international airports to the evolving situation.
These efforts underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring prompt detection and response to any potential outbreak of MPox in the country.
