As the much-anticipated two-day Global Muthamizh Murugan Conference commenced in Palani, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s decision to inaugurate the event virtually from Chennai has sparked controversy. Senior BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan raised concerns over Stalin’s absence from the event, which she claimed was an attempt by the DMK government to counter accusations of being anti-Hindu.
Palani, one of the sacred six abodes of Lord Murugan, served as the venue for this grand event. However, Tamilisai Soundararajan, a former president of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit, questioned the sincerity of the DMK government’s involvement in the conference. Speaking to the media at Coimbatore airport on Saturday morning, she criticized both Chief Minister Stalin and his son, Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, for not attending the inauguration in person.
Tamilisai suggested that their absence hinted at the DMK organizing the conference merely as a token gesture, rather than out of genuine interest in promoting Tamil culture and spirituality. Despite her critique, she acknowledged that the government’s involvement in the Lord Murugan conference could indicate a shift in the DMK’s approach towards religious matters.
