Dubai, Aug 28: India is set to face West Indies and South Africa in their warm-up matches for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, scheduled to take place in Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday that India will play against West Indies on September 29, followed by a match against South Africa on October 1.
All ten teams that have qualified for the tournament will participate in two warm-up games each. The warm-up matches will begin on September 28, with Pakistan taking on Scotland and Sri Lanka facing Bangladesh. Defending champions Australia will play against arch-rival England on September 29 and then meet West Indies on October 1.
These practice games will be 20-over-a-side contests but will not hold official T20 international status, allowing teams the flexibility to field their entire 15-player squads. Notably, no teams from the same group will face each other in these warm-up rounds.
India has been placed in Group A, along with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B includes England, South Africa, West Indies, Scotland, and Bangladesh. The main tournament is set to commence on October 3 in the UAE, following its relocation from Bangladesh due to the ongoing political unrest in the original host country.
