Former Governor and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan asserted on Friday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is resolute in its commitment to form a government in Tamil Nadu by 2026. Speaking to reporters after paying tribute to the late Tamil Maanila Congress (M) leader GK Moopanar at his memorial, Tamilisai emphasized that the BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu are united in their ambition to secure governance in the state.
“Although the BJP is in power at the Centre, our intention, as leaders of the Tamil Nadu BJP, is to form the government in Tamil Nadu in 2026,” she stated, highlighting the party’s long-term political strategy for the state.
Tamilisai also criticized Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s recent visit to the United States. She questioned the necessity of the trip, suggesting that the companies with which Stalin signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) during his visit already had a presence in Tamil Nadu.
“It was Prime Minister Modi who laid the foundation for attracting foreign investments. He visited various countries and created an environment conducive to multinational companies investing in India. Many foreign companies are investing in India because they see Modi as a strong leader,” Tamilisai remarked.
She further questioned the purpose of Stalin’s visit, asking, “Stalin, have you gone on tour by misleading all the Tamils? Stalin must clarify whether the US trip is for investment or just a tour.”
In her comments, Tamilisai also addressed the ruling DMK government’s stance on the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP), accusing the government of opposing the policy for political reasons. She argued that the NEP is essential for ensuring that Tamil Nadu’s students receive proper recognition and urged the state government to implement the policy to secure educational funds.
Tamilisai also commended popular actor Vijay for his recent visit to Shirdi Sai Baba temple to seek blessings. The actor, who is also the president of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, made the pilgrimage ahead of the release of his upcoming movie “GOAT” and his first state conference scheduled for September 23 in Vikravandi.
Tamilisai’s remarks reflect the BJP’s growing focus on Tamil Nadu as the party looks to expand its influence in the southern state, where regional parties have historically dominated the political landscape.
