In a significant development, Sekar, the brother of former AIADMK minister M.R. Vijayabaskar, has been arrested by the CBCID police in connection with an alleged attempt to illegally acquire land worth Rs 100 crore.
During the AIADMK government, M.R. Vijayabaskar served as the Minister of Transport. During his tenure, allegations of corruption related to the procurement of GPS devices and amassing wealth beyond known sources of income surfaced. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) initiated an investigation and conducted searches at properties owned by Vijayabaskar.
Additionally, a case was filed against M.R. Vijayabaskar and others for allegedly attempting to grab land valued atĀ  Rs 100 crore, which belongs to a person named Prakash from Karur. In this case, the CBCID police had previously arrested M.R. Vijayabaskar and Selvaraj in Karur. While Vijayabaskar was later released on conditional bail after being lodged in Trichy prison, his brother Sekar’s anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Madras High Court.
Following the rejection of the bail plea, CBCID police arrested Sekar.
