Former Minister D Jayakumar distributed new membership cards to AIADMK executives and workers from the Royapuram area at a private marriage hall on MS Naidu Street, Old Washermenpet.During the event, Jayakumar criticized the ruling DMK, questioning how a state that claims to be secular can hold a conference for only one religion. He also pointed out the recent Sanatana Dharma conference and the Murugan conference held in Palani, which he claimed were organized merely to appease the BJP, adding that this has not gone down well with DMK’s allies. He predicted that the impact of this will be evident in the upcoming assembly elections. As the 2026 elections approach, he speculated whether DMK’s alliance partners will even stay with them.
Regarding actor Vijay’s political ambitions, Jayakumar stated, “India is a democratic country, and Tamil Nadu embraces democracy. Anyone can hold a conference or start a political party. So, why is the DMK afraid of Vijay? When Vijay launches his party, it is the DMK that will be most affected. They fear that their votes will shift to Vijay.”
He further emphasised that the anti-DMK votes would naturally come to AIADMK. “This is a fundamental reality, something that happens in every election. We are confident that the votes won’t split. Those angry with the DMK will vote for AIADMK,” he concluded.
