In a significant development for Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially approved the registration of top actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a political party. The news, disclosed by party sources to DT Next on Saturday, marks a major milestone for Vijay’s political ambitions ahead of the party’s inaugural state conference.
Vijay, the founder-president of TVK, shared the news with his followers on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. He stated, “On February 2, we had applied to the Election Commission of India to register the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as a political party. After legal consideration, the ECI has now registered our Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam as a political party and allowed us to participate as a registered party in electoral politics.” Expressing his pride, Vijay added, “We will break the barriers and come as a main political party for the people of Tamil Nadu,” highlighting that equality is the foundational principle of his new party.
Following the announcement, TVK cadres and Vijay’s fans celebrated the occasion by distributing sweets and bursting crackers across Tamil Nadu, reflecting widespread enthusiasm for the actor’s political journey.
In a related development, the Villupuram district police have issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the TVK’s upcoming state conference. The party had earlier addressed the queries raised by the Villupuram district police regarding permission and security arrangements for the event.
The registration of TVK as a political party by the ECI marks a significant step forward for Vijay’s entry into Tamil Nadu politics, with many watching closely as the new party prepares to make its mark in the state’s political arena.
