Chennai, Sept 16: Even as parts of Tamil Nadu receive light to moderate rainfall, the State is set to experience a rise in maximum temperatures over the coming days. The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast temperatures to remain 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal in isolated areas across the State. On Saturday, districts like Sivagangai, Ariyalur, Coimbatore, and the Nilgiris recorded isolated rainfall. However, in the capital city Chennai, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of light rain in some localities. The city’s maximum temperature is predicted to hover around 37-38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay around 28 degrees Celsius until Tuesday.
Weather blogger K. Srikanth, writing on the platform X, warned that the afternoon heat in Tamil Nadu will continue to remain 2-4 degrees Celsius above normal, leading to uncomfortable conditions in many areas. “A hot day awaits most parts of Tamil Nadu, with dry weather persisting across the State except for isolated rains in the southern regions,” he added.
On Saturday, Madurai reported the highest temperature in the State at 40.6 degrees Celsius, while Chennai’s Meenambakkam recorded 37.6 degrees Celsius. These summer-like conditions, combined with humidity, are likely to cause discomfort in certain pockets of the State in the coming days.
The rise in temperatures is attributed to the prevalence of moderate Westerlies and Southwesterlies at lower levels of the atmosphere, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre. While some areas may experience brief showers, most of the State is expected to endure hot and dry conditions.
As Tamil Nadu continues to grapple with these higher temperatures, the public is advised to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun, especially during peak afternoon hours.
