Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant repaired the innings up to certain extent after India got off to a shaky start in the opening Test against Bangladesh at Chepauk. The two stitched 62 runs for the fourth wicket as Hasan Mahmud packed Pant for 39 early in the second session, which was his fourth of the innings.
Earlier, Bangladesh won the toss and invited India to bat. The tourists started on a strong note and rocked the Indian top-order with Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli falling cheaply.
Rohit was caught at second slips for 6, Gill failed to open his account, while Kohli returned for run a ball 6. Pant then joined Jaiswal in the middle and took India’s total to 88/3 at Lunch.
Meanwhile, “three seamers and two spinners” was the big news informed by Rohit at the toss, which meant Kuldeep Yadav was not included in the playing XI. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj along with Akash Deep will be seen shouldering the seam department, while R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja will lead the spin attack. While there is no dearth of talent in the Indian camp, but they need to be cautious about the opposition, who seem equally good going by their recent performance.
The tourists head into the series after completing a 2-0 whitewash over Pakistan on their home soil and their spinners, in particular Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a huge role to play in it.
Bangladesh who will hope for a similar show against the neighbours have so far put up a strong display, mounting pressure on India.
