Justice Kalpathi Rajendran Shriram was sworn in as the 34th Chief Justice of the Madras High Court on September 27, 2024, in a ceremony held at the Governor’s office in Raj Bhavan. Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and presented the warrant of appointment to the new Chief Justice.In his address, Chief Justice KR Shriram expressed his gratitude for being associated with the Madras High Court, an institution renowned for its rich traditions and values. “I feel blessed to be associated with this great institution having the highest tradition and greatest values,” he said while addressing fellow judges and members of the Bar.
Chief Justice Shriram highlighted the court’s legacy of producing legal luminaries and vowed to uphold its esteemed traditions. “For the past 150 years, the Madras High Court has produced various legal luminaries and stalwarts. I only wish to play my part in upholding the high tradition of this court,” he added.
Concluding his address, the Tamil-speaking Chief Justice referred to two couplets from the Thirukkural, emphasizing the importance of impartiality in the justice system, reinforcing his commitment to upholding the court’s high standards of integrity.
