Kanpur, Oct 2: The Indian cricket team secured a vital win against Bangladesh in the second Test match at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, with Ravichandran Ashwin praising skipper Rohit Sharma for his leadership and execution of a successful game plan. Despite challenges, including two days of rain delays, India’s aggressive strategy proved decisive in their push towards securing a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The match, marred by rain interruptions, seemed headed for a draw as both teams struggled with limited playtime. However, India’s determination to achieve victory shone through. Reflecting on the team’s mindset, Ashwin stated in the post-match interview, “Really glad I’m able to turn up performances for the team’s victory. Winning this game was important for us. A lot of bowlers contributed really well for us today. Massive win for us in the context of the WTC.”
Ravichandran Ashwin played a pivotal role in India’s win, achieving several personal milestones along the way. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing WTC cycle and became the first bowler to take 50 wickets across all three editions of the championship. Additionally, he set the record for the most wickets by an Indian bowler in Asia, further cementing his place as one of the game’s greats.
Ashwin’s impressive performance also earned him his 11th Player of the Series award, tying him with legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muttiah Muralitharan for the most Player of the Series accolades.
Ashwin credited much of the team’s success to captain Rohit Sharma, whose strategic and aggressive leadership was key to India’s victory. Despite the weather setbacks, Sharma kept the team focused on their goal, ensuring that India’s chances of reaching the WTC final remained intact.
With this victory, India not only strengthened their standing in the WTC rankings but also showcased their resilience and ability to overcome adverse conditions.
