The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to host a spectacular air show at Marina Beach on October 6, offering a rare display of India’s aerial prowess to residents and visitors of Chennai.

The event, organized as part of the IAF’s initiative to inspire the youth and showcase its operational capabilities, promises a thrilling spectacle of acrobatic maneuvers, formation flying, and high-speed aircraft demonstrations.

The air show will take place between 9 AM and 11 AM, featuring some of the IAF’s most advanced aircraft, including the Sukhoi Su-30MKI, MiG-29s, and the indigenously developed Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). In addition to these fighters, transport aircraft and advanced helicopters such as the Apache, Chinook, and Chetak will participate in the display. The highlight of the show is expected to be the renowned Surya Kiran aerobatic team, which will perform complex formations and breathtaking stunts, leaving spectators in awe of their precision flying.

The air show is part of the IAF’s public outreach efforts, designed to instill a sense of pride and patriotism while showcasing the critical role the air force plays in safeguarding India’s skies. It also seeks to inspire young Indians to consider careers in the armed forces, particularly the air force. The IAF has consistently conducted air shows across the country to engage with the public, but the Marina Beach setting, one of the longest urban beaches in the world, promises a unique and memorable experience.

Given the large number of spectators expected to gather at Marina Beach, the Chennai city police have put in place extensive traffic diversions and security arrangements. More than 6,500 police personnel and 1,500 home-guard volunteers will be deployed to manage traffic, ensure public safety, and maintain order during the event.

Traffic Restrictions on Kamarajar Salai:

Only vehicles with authorized passes will be allowed between the Gandhi Statue and the War Memorial on Kamarajar Salai.

Motorists without passes are advised to avoid RK Salai and instead use Wallajah Salai for better parking options.

Vehicles traveling from Tiruvanmiyur toward Parry’s Corner via Kamarajar Salai will be diverted to alternate routes such as Sardar Patel Road, Gandhi Mandapam Road, and Anna Salai.
MTC Bus Diversions:

Buses originating from Anna Statue will be rerouted through Wallajah Road, Triplicane High Road, and Dr. Natesan Road.

Buses from Greenways Point will follow alternative routes through Mandaveli, RA Puram, and TTK Salai.

Commercial Vehicle Restrictions: From 7 AM to 4 PM, commercial vehicles will be restricted from key roads such as Kamarajar Salai, Anna Salai, Santhome High Road, RK Salai, and Wallajah Road.

Special Parking Arrangements:

VIP and VVIP vehicles will be parked at designated areas along Foreshore Estate Road.

Parking spots for vehicles with blue passes are arranged at Presidency College, Swamy Sivananda Salai, and Lady Wellington College.

Public parking areas are allocated at MRTS Light House Road, Queen Mary’s College, and several other key points along Santhome and RK Salai.

Parking lots will close by 9:30 AM, and authorities urge spectators to arrive early, particularly those using private vehicles.

To accommodate the large number of attendees, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has arranged 75 special buses in addition to the regular 120 buses on Sunday.

Feeder services from major Metro stations will also operate with increased frequency.
