In light of the forecasted heavy rains, the Horticulture and Plantation Crops Department announced the temporary closure of the newly-opened Kalaignar Centenary Park in Chennai. The park, located on Cathedral Road, will remain closed from Tuesday, October 15, to Friday, October 18.
The closure follows the issuance of Orange and Red alerts by the weather department, warning of severe rainfall in Chennai and its suburbs. As a precautionary measure, the Horticulture Department released a statement informing the public that the park will not be operational during this period.
Kalaignar Centenary Park, inaugurated on October 7 by Chief Minister M K Stalin, has been a popular destination since its opening, attracting thousands of visitors. The department aims to ensure the safety of visitors and park infrastructure by suspending operations during the forecasted heavy rains. The park is expected to reopen after October 18, once weather conditions improve.
