Rains: Annamalai urges DMK govt to address basic needs

BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai on Tuesday called on the DMK government to address the urgent needs of people living in the state’s coastal districts, particularly in light of the heavy rainfall and flooding that have affected the region. Annamalai urged the government to ensure the provision of essential resources, including safe shelter and food, for those most vulnerable during this period.

In a statement on social media, Annamalai advised the public to refrain from stepping out for non-essential purposes, citing the dangers posed by waterlogged roads and ongoing storms. He recalled the severe flood situations in Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai, and Chengalpattu districts over the past three years, where flooding caused significant disruption and damage.

“As the state ministers and the Mayor of Greater Chennai Corporation have been saying for the last three years that the stormwater sewer works in Chennai had been 90 per cent completed, I request the public to remember the experience of the past three years and be very careful while travelling on water-logged roads,” Annamalai remarked.

Annamalai particularly warned residents of low-lying areas, which have been severely affected by floods in recent years, to remain vigilant. He urged people to stay alert to their surroundings and take precautionary measures to avoid harm.

The BJP leader also stressed the need for extreme caution while handling electrical equipment and in proximity to water bodies during this period of torrential rainfall, which is expected to continue for several more days.

“I request everyone to avoid trying to get into water bodies,” Annamalai said, emphasizing the potential risks involved.
