Vijay’s power-sharing offer like a diwali deal: Thiruma

TVK leader Vijay’s recent announcement regarding power-sharing in the administration has stirred a buzz within political circles and appears aimed at creating ripples within the DMK alliance, according to VCK leader and Member of Parliament Thirumavalavan.
TVK’s first public conference was held on the 27th of last month, where Vijay unveiled the party’s policies and manifesto. He expressed willingness to forge alliances for the 2026 legislative assembly elections and promised a share in power to coalition partners.
Several allies in the DMK and AIADMK coalitions welcomed this statement, with VCK’s Deputy General Secretary Adhav Arjuna being among the first to express support for Vijay’s promise of power-sharing.
However, in an exclusive interview with a private television channel, Thirumavalavan questioned Vijay’s intentions. He noted that while some believe this power-sharing announcement might be directed at VCK, it is premature for the party to make any decisions based on Vijay’s statements. He suggested that the move resembles a commercial strategy aimed at attracting attention, much like Diwali discounts in retail.
“This seems more like a tactical approach than a genuine political commitment,” Thirumavalavan said. “It’s like announcing a festival offer to draw crowds to a store. Vijay’s announcement appears intended to attract attention rather than present a credible promise of power-sharing.”
Thirumavalavan added that this announcement could incite confusion within existing alliances, especially the DMK-led front, and cast doubt on Vijay’s long-term intentions.
He also questioned Vijay’s electoral strength, stating that in Tamil Nadu, capturing at least 30-35% of the vote share is necessary to secure power. Thirumavalavan challenged whether Vijay could achieve 30% of the vote independently, suggesting that such announcements alone may not be enough to shift the electoral landscape in his favor.
