A low-pressure system over the South Bay of Bengal has prompted weather experts to predict heavy rainfall across various districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, starting today. The weather system, which is expected to intensify over the next few days, has raised concerns and heightened anticipation for widespread rain in the state.
According to the Meteorological Department’s latest report, several districts in Tamil Nadu are already experiencing rainfall. The low-pressure system over the South Bay of Bengal, along with another cyclonic circulation in the Mannar Gulf and off the Sri Lankan coastline, is expected to strengthen in the coming days. This is likely to bring heavy rainfall to multiple regions, especially in the southern parts of the state.
Today, heavy rain is expected in several key districts of Tamil Nadu, including:
Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Thanjavur,
Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram.
These districts are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The rain is expected to offer some relief from the recent heatwave, although it may cause temporary disruptions, especially in urban areas with waterlogging and traffic issues.
