Thol Thirumavalavan, leader of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), dispelled speculation on Friday about his party’s alliance ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Emphasizing VCK’s role as a founding member of the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA), Thirumavalavan confirmed that the party would remain steadfast in its commitment to the coalition. In a strongly worded letter to party cadre, Thirumavalavan addressed rumors suggesting that VCK might join forces with Tamiliga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for the upcoming polls. The speculation emerged after it was announced that Thirumavalavan would share a stage with actor-turned-politician Vijay during a book release function on December 6. “Such rumors reveal the venomous mindset of those who measure us as a very weak party,” Thirumavalavan asserted.
Dismissing the idea that sharing a platform with another political figure could imply a change in alliances, Thirumavalavan questioned the logic behind such assumptions. “Do they think we are an average party, ready to swap alliances for temporary gains?” he wrote, pointing out the fallacy in interpreting his participation in the event as a shift in political allegiance. Senior VCK officials further stated to DT Next that no official decision has been made regarding Thirumavalavan’s involvement in the December 6 event.
The VCK chief framed the rumors as a deliberate attempt by anti-democratic and Sanatana forces to create friction within the DMK-led alliance. “It is a conspiracy of Sanatana forces and political rivals designed to weaken the DMK-led front,” Thirumavalavan stated, urging party members not to be swayed by such tactics.
Elaborating on the event timeline, Thirumavalavan explained that the book release was planned well before TVK’s conference and the speech by Vijay, which had sparked political debate. He mentioned learning of Vijay’s participation only a week prior, underscoring that the overlap was coincidental and had been spun to fit a divisive narrative aimed at undermining VCK’s standing.
Reiterating the party’s loyalty to the SPA, Thirumavalavan emphasized VCK’s commitment to long-term goals and their fight against ideological adversaries. He urged party members to remain resolute, saying, “Some are trying to question our credibility and destroy our confidence. This is a premeditated political attack and a Sanatana conspiracy to manipulate our emotions and destabilize us.”
Thirumavalavan concluded by calling on his supporters to stay vigilant against such conspiracies, stating that those fueling the rumors were not only targeting VCK but the DMK-led alliance as a whole.
“The enemies who engineer these strategies against us are enemies of both the VCK and the DMK, aiming to weaken our collective fight,” he wrote, reinforcing VCK’s dedication to its core values and partnerships.
