Chennai and its suburban areas have been experiencing heavy rainfall since the early hours of Tuesday. The continuous downpour has impacted several key localities, including Egmore, Koyambedu, Guindy, Vadapalani, Nungambakkam, Kodambakkam, Mambalam, Saidapet, Chromepet, Pallavaram, Tambaram, Guduvancheri, Poonamallee, and Medavakkam. The intensity of the rainfall has raised concerns about potential disruptions and flooding in low-lying areas.

According to a report, the current wave of rainfall is attributed to the formation of a new low-pressure area over the Southwest Bay of Bengal, which has further intensified the ongoing Northeast monsoon.

Weather Forecast and Warnings

The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) has forecasted that light to moderate rainfall will persist in Chennai and its neighboring districts, including Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Vellore, and Ranipet today.

The RMC has also issued a significant weather warning, predicting heavy rainfall across most of Tamil Nadu for the next four days. This forecast is based on the expected strengthening of the low-pressure system, which is projected to move westward towards the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coastal areas over the next 48 hours.

Authorities and Preparedness

Local authorities have been advised to stay on high alert and implement precautionary measures to mitigate any potential disruptions caused by the rainfall. Civic bodies are likely to focus on managing waterlogging and ensuring the safety of residents, especially in flood-prone zones.

The public is encouraged to stay updated with official weather advisories and follow safety guidelines. Essential services are being closely monitored to ensure minimal interruption during the heavy rainfall period.
