“Set high goals in life, and with discipline and time management, you can achieve anything,” said Governor R.N. Ravi during an interaction event titled ‘Ennith Thuniga’ held at the Governor’s House in Guindy, aimed at inspiring young achievers.
Governor Ravi highlighted the lack of adequate awareness about special children both in society and within government systems. He emphasized that special children are often perceived through various lenses by society, which affects how they are treated and supported. He called for greater attention from both central and state governments to address the needs of these children.
Speaking on data, Governor Ravi noted that when he inquired with the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, they reported that there are 5 million special children in India. However, he expressed that the actual number might be higher.
Governor Ravi also pointed out a concerning mindset among parents, sharing that about 75% of parents reportedly have suicidal thoughts upon the birth of a special child. He urged that this mindset must change to foster a more inclusive and supportive society.
He concluded by reiterating the importance of having ambitious goals: “Success is certain if you act with ambition. The younger generation has endless opportunities today to achieve whatever they aspire to be. The doors are open for them now.”
Governor Ravi’s speech aimed to motivate the youth while addressing critical issues surrounding the perception and support for special children in society.
