In a significant development, a special team from the Egmore police station in Chennai arrested actor Kasthuri Shankar from the Narsingi Police Station limits in Cyberabad, Hyderabad, on Saturday. According to a senior official from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate, the Chennai police team arrived in Hyderabad on November 16 and apprehended Ms. Kasthuri at her residence. âThe team arrested her around 8:30 p.m. from her flat in Narsingi and will be taking her to Chennai on a transit warrant,â the officer confirmed.
The arrest follows a series of controversies surrounding the actorâs remarks during a gathering held in Chennai on November 3. Kasthuriâs statements, allegedly targeting the Telugu community, sparked widespread criticism and led to the filing of a case against her. The allegations include promoting hate speech and inciting community tensions. Despite her public apology, which aimed to mitigate the backlash, the Madras High Court denied her anticipatory bail application earlier this week. The court found her explanation unsatisfactory, prompting the Chennai police to take further action.
