The murder of a government school teacher in Thanjavur and an advocate in Hosur has sparked widespread criticism of the ruling DMK government, with opposition leaders accusing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s administration of failing to maintain law and order in Tamil Nadu.
Ramani, a temporary teacher at a government high school in Mallipattinam, Thanjavur district, was stabbed to death on the school premises by Madhavan, a fellow villager, after she rejected his marriage proposal. The brutal incident has sent shockwaves across the state, raising concerns about the safety of government employees.
Leader of Opposition and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami expressed shock over the two murders and accused the DMK government of incompetence. “Murders have become common under the incompetent DMK regime, which has failed to maintain law and order in the state. Even government employees, including teachers and doctors, are not safe in their workplaces,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Palaniswami criticized CM Stalin for focusing on “publicity stunts” instead of addressing critical governance issues. He urged the government to take immediate measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
AMMK leader T.T.V. Dhinakaran also condemned the murder of the teacher, calling it a reflection of the declining law and order situation. He said, “This shocking incident indicates that safety in Tamil Nadu has reached an all-time low.”
BJP state president K. Annamalai joined the chorus of criticism, pointing to the two murders as evidence of the government’s failure. “The DMK government has failed to ensure the safety of its citizens. CM Stalin must take responsibility for the lawlessness and focus on resolving issues instead of diverting attention,” he said.
The twin incidents have intensified scrutiny on the ruling DMK, with opposition parties demanding immediate steps to restore law and order. While the state government has yet to release an official statement addressing the criticisms, the public outcry underscores the growing concern over safety in Tamil Nadu.
As the political debate heats up, citizens hope for swift and effective measures to ensure safety and accountability in the state.
