Court orders on allotment of ‘Two Leaves’ symbol in 7 days

The Election Commission has informed the Madras High Court that it will issue an order within a week on a petition seeking a ban on allotting the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol to the AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) until the pending civil cases regarding internal party disputes are resolved.
The petition, filed by Suryamoorthy from Tindivanam, states that between 2017 and 2022, he submitted multiple complaints to the Election Commission regarding the internal conflicts within the AIADMK, including actions that violated the party’s rules. He has requested the Election Commission not to allocate the ‘Two Leaves’ symbol to the AIADMK until the civil cases related to the party’s issues are concluded. The petition also calls for the Election Commission to be directed to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
The case was heard by a bench consisting of Justices R. Subramanian and C. Kumarappan. During the proceedings, the judges questioned why the Election Commission had not taken any action on the petition filed in February. In response, the lawyer representing the Election Commission assured the court that an order would be issued within a week. Following this, the court adjourned the hearing to December 2.
