Nanganallur Metro Station renamed as OTA – Nanganallur Road Metro


Chennai: In a significant move, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has officially renamed the Nanganallur Metro Station to OTA – Nanganallur Road Metro as per Government Order G.O. Ms. No. 151 dated October 22, 2024. The newly named station is a part of the Blue Line in Phase-1 of the Chennai Metro project, and the renaming serves as a tribute to the Indian Army, specifically recognizing the pivotal role of the Officers Training Academy (OTA) located nearby.
The decision to rename the station was made after careful consideration by the High-Power Committee (HPC) for the Chennai Metro project. The HPC’s 26th meeting, which took place recently, evaluated requests made by military authorities, particularly the Chief of Staff, Headquarters, Dakshin Bharat Area, Chennai. Their recent request for this renaming was accepted to honor the Indian Army’s contribution and the proximity of the Officers Training Academy to the Metro station.
The official renaming ceremony took place on November 25, 2024, in the presence of several distinguished dignitaries. Thiru Rajesh Chaturvedi, IRSEE, Director (Systems & Operations) of Chennai Metro Rail Limited, and Lt. Gen. K.S. Brar, AVSM, General Officer Commanding of Dakshin Bharat Area, graced the occasion. Other key attendees included Lt. Gen. Michael A J Fernandez AVSM, VSM, Commandant of the Officers Training Academy, Major General Ajay Sud, Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor of the Officers Training Academy, along with senior officials and staff from CMRL.
The renaming of the Nanganallur Metro station is a symbolic gesture acknowledging the strategic importance of the OTA and its continued role in the training of officers for the Indian Army. The Officers Training Academy, located in the vicinity, plays a crucial role in preparing future military leaders, and the renaming of the station highlights the deep respect and admiration for the institution.
This development is not only a recognition of the Indian Army’s service but also reflects the growing bond between the military and the infrastructure of Chennai, as the city’s Metro system continues to evolve and integrate with key institutions in the region.
