Tamil Nadu Minister Duraimurugan has refuted allegations from the opposition regarding the release of water from the Sathanur Dam, asserting that multiple flood warnings were issued prior to the release and that the government took all necessary precautions to avoid casualties.Responding to claims by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and PMK leader Dr. Ramadoss, who accused the government of releasing water without prior notice, Duraimurugan issued a detailed statement:
âThe claim that 1.68 lakh cusecs of water were released from the Sathanur Dam without prior warning, causing hardships to residents in four districts, is completely false.
Before releasing the water, five separate flood warnings were issued. The final warning was given on December 2, before 1.80 lakh cusecs of water were released. These precautionary measures helped prevent significant loss of life.
Those spreading baseless allegations fail to acknowledge the excessive rainfall that necessitated these actions. The government acted promptly to protect the Sathanur Dam from potential damage. If the dam had been compromised, the resulting devastation would have been unimaginable.
Thanks to the government’s preemptive actions, major damages and casualties were avoided. Continuous warnings were given about the water release to ensure the safety of residents in the affected areas.
Unfortunately, the opposition has chosen to ignore these facts. Instead of recognizing the governmentâs efforts to safeguard lives, they have resorted to spreading falsehoods. Even when it comes to matters of life and safety, they seem to have mortgaged their conscience.
Let it be clear: lies will never stand the test of time,â Duraimurugan stated.
