
 Walter Devaram, the retired Tamil Nadu DGP (Law and Order), was admitted to the hospital yesterday following complaints of breathlessness. The 85-year-old veteran police officer resides in the McNichols Road area of Kilpauk, Chennai.
Devaram was rushed to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital, where he is currently undergoing intensive treatment.
Walter Devaram served as a courageous and influential officer during his tenure in the Tamil Nadu Police Department. He worked under three prominent Chief MinistersâM.G. Ramachandran, M. Karunanidhi, and J. Jayalalithaa. Known for his bravery and strategic acumen, he played a pivotal role in weakening the notorious sandalwood smuggler Veerappan’s gang. Devaram was also regarded as a nightmare for Naxalite groups during his service. Apart from his illustrious career in law enforcement, Walter Devaram documented his experiences in his autobiography titled “From Munnar to Marina,” offering a detailed account of his life and career.
