Dnyaneshwar Singh, the Deputy Director-General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), who was investigating the high-profile drug trafficking case involving Jaffer Sadiq, has been removed from his position.
Jaffer Sadiq, a former DMK functionary from Chennai, was arrested by NCB officials in Delhi on March 9. He was accused of international drug trafficking and amassing over ₹2,000 crore through illicit activities.
Allegations Against the Officer
During the investigation, Dnyaneshwar Singh, an IPS officer serving as NCB’s Deputy Director-General, came under scrutiny for allegedly making politically motivated statements and withholding critical details about the case. It was also alleged that proper procedures were not followed during the investigation.
Complaints were filed against Singh with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the NCB headquarters. Following this, the NCB directed Manish Kumar, the Deputy Director-General of its Western Zone, to submit a report on Singh’s actions and handling of the case.
Removal and Further Action
Based on the findings, Singh was removed from his role in the vigilance unit of the NCB. Additionally, the Ministry of Home Affairs decided to withdraw him from the NCB entirely. Singh has not been assigned any new responsibilities.
The Jaffer Sadiq case continues to be a matter of significant interest, given its political and criminal implications, with NCB working under heightened scrutiny to ensure transparency and adherence to legal protocols.
