In a heartfelt homage, Chief Minister MK Stalin celebrated the remarkable life and legacy of Communist Party of India (CPI) veteran R Nallakannu during the centenary celebrations held at Kalaivanar Arangam on Sunday. The event underscored Nallakannu’s enduring contributions to social justice, equality, and political integrity.
Chief Minister Stalin praised Nallakannu for his unwavering dedication to the principles of communism and his tireless efforts to uplift marginalized communities. Highlighting the veteran leader’s selflessness, Stalin said, ā€œNallakannu’s life is a testament to the values of equality, justice, and social welfare. He remains an inspiration for generations to work toward a common goal.ā€
Stalin emphasized the deep-rooted connection between the Dravidian and Communist movements, describing their relationship as a “friendship of principles” beyond the scope of electoral politics. He recalled that Thanthai Periyar, the founder of the Dravidian movement, was the first to translate and publish Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels’ Communist Manifesto in Tamil, symbolizing the ideological synergy between the two movements.
The Chief Minister commended Nallakannu’s relentless fight against casteism, communalism, and authoritarianism. He highlighted the leader’s pivotal role in shaping Tamil Nadu’s socio-political landscape through his advocacy for equality and justice. Stalin urged democratic forces to unite against divisive ideologies and walk the path of Nallakannu, promoting harmony and inclusivity.
As a mark of respect, Stalin released a book of poetry and an anthem dedicated to Nallakannu’s life and contributions. Speaking at the event, Stalin noted, ā€œThe best centenary gift we can give to Comrade Nallakannu is for democratic forces to come together against casteism, communalism, and authoritarianism. With unity and shared resolve, we can honor his vision.ā€
The grand celebration was graced by prominent personalities, including MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, acclaimed lyricist Vairamuthu, renowned scientist Mayilsamy Annadurai, and veteran actor Sivakumar. Each expressed their admiration for Nallakannu’s exceptional leadership and his unwavering commitment to social progress.
R Nallakannu’s centenary celebrations were a testament to his unparalleled contributions to Tamil Nadu’s social and political fabric. The event not only honored his legacy but also called for a renewed commitment to his ideals, ensuring his enduring impact on future generations.
