Actor and TVK leader Vijay recently issued a handwritten statement condemning the sexual assault incident involving a student at Anna University. Along with releasing the statement, Vijay also submitted a petition to Governor R.N. Ravi, seeking action on the issue.
Following this, TVK party members began distributing copies of Vijay’s statement to the public near a women’s college in the Pookadai area. They handed out the statement to students, women, and the general public.
However, the police arrived at the scene and reportedly objected to the distribution, stating it was not permitted. Despite the warnings, TVK members continued to distribute the copies, leading to their detention by the police. The detained party members were taken to a marriage hall in Thyagaraya Nagar for questioning.
Upon learning about the situation, TVK General Secretary Anand arrived at the location and requested the police to release all those detained. When the police refused, they accused Anand and other TVK members of gathering without prior permission and arrested them.
The arrests led to brief tensions, but after a short period, the police released Anand and the other detained TVK members.
