Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has apologized to the people of the state for the ongoing violence that began in May last year and has pledged to work towards peace and harmony in the upcoming year.
Speaking in Imphal, Biren Singh said, “I apologize to the people of the state for the violence since May last year. Let us strive for peace and unity in the New Year. I urge everyone to forgive and forget the past.”
The CM also addressed issues of illegal immigration, stating that a biometric registration process is currently underway to identify and document illegal settlers. From January 2025, Aadhaar-linked birth registrations will be introduced to curb illegal population growth.
Initially, this initiative will be implemented in three districts, starting on January 15, 2025. Singh added, “We have identified population increases in voter lists in some districts. To address this, birth registration will be made mandatory, with updates required every five years.”
Biren Singh further noted that over 3,000 of the 6,000 weapons looted during the violence have been recovered. The state government remains committed to restoring order and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
