CMRL says 3.2 lakh people use Metro services on an average every sayThe Chennai Metro Rail has announced that a record 10.52 crore passengers traveled on its network in 2024 alone.
In a statement, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) revealed that from its inception on June 29, 2015, to December 31, 2024, a total of 35.53 crore passengers have used the metro services. Of these, 10.52 crore passengers were recorded in 2024, marking a significant milestone.
The statement highlighted that Chennai Metro continues to provide reliable and safe transportation for the general public, including government and private sector employees. On average, 3.2 lakh passengers use the metro daily. The year 2024 saw the highest passenger numbers in its nine-year history, with an increase of 1.41 crore passengers compared to 2023.

2015-2018: 2.80 crore passengers
2019: 3.28 crore passengers
2020: 1.18 crore passengers (pandemic impact)
2021: 2.53 crore passengers
2022: 6.09 crore passengers
2023: 9.11 crore
Passenger Convenience and Discounts
Chennai Metro offers various ticketing options, including QR codes, travel cards, WhatsApp tickets, Paytm, PhonePe, and the Singara Chennai card, all with a 20% fare discount. Passengers can purchase tickets through WhatsApp (+91 83000 86000) or the Paytm app for added convenience.
