Governor must uphold Assembly traditions: Vijay

Actor and TVK leader Vijay has urged Governor R.N. Ravi to uphold the long-standing traditions of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
In a statement, Vijay emphasized the importance of preserving the assembly’s customs, saying, “The Tamil Thai Vazhthu is sung at the beginning, and the National Anthem is played at the end of the session, as per the assembly’s decades-old tradition. The heritage of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, which has witnessed a golden era, must be safeguarded. Regardless of who the Governor appointed by the Central Government is, they must adhere to and uphold the traditions of the Tamil Nadu Assembly.”
Addressing the recurring conflicts between the Governor and the state government, Vijay remarked, “Frequent disputes over procedural traditions between the Governor and the ruling government during every assembly session are becoming a continuous story. This is not healthy for democracy, and such a trend must be abandoned. The focus should remain on discussing people’s issues.”
Vijay also criticized the decision to stop live telecasts of assembly proceedings, stating, “As the first legislative session of the year begins, halting the live broadcast of its events is unacceptable. It is essential for the people of Tamil Nadu to transparently witness the democratic debates between the ruling party and the opposition within the assembly.”
