Alanganallur jallikattu begins with fanfare

Madurai, Jan 16: The much-anticipated Alanganallur Jallikattu commenced with great fervor as bulls charged out of the Vadivasal (entry gate) and tamers enthusiastically took up the challenge of controlling them.
Alanganallur Jallikattu, one of the most renowned bull-taming events globally, follows the Avaniyapuram and Palamedu Jallikattu events in Madurai. The Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Udhayanidhi Stalin, inaugurated the event on January 16, drawing thousands of participants and spectators.
Bull owners and tamers from Madurai, Dindigul, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, and other districts gathered at Alanganallur to participate in the grand event. The competition saw the entry of approximately 1,000 bulls and 900 tamers.
The event showcased not only the tradition and cultural significance of Jallikattu but also the meticulous preparation and enthusiasm of the participants. Bull owners spent months training their animals, while tamers honed their skills to compete in this prestigious event.
The stakes were high, with an array of attractive prizes, including cars, tractors, and other items, awaiting the best-performing tamers and bulls. These rewards symbolize both the competitive spirit of the event and the recognition of the participants’ dedication.
